Switch Ollie

Difficulty Level: BeginnerTail

An ollie in your non-dominant stance.

A Switch Ollie is performing an ollie while riding in your switch stance (the opposite of your natural stance). It is a true test of board control and ambidexterity on a skateboard.

🎯 Challenge your coordination!

Mastering the Switch Ollie will make you a much more well-rounded skateboarder and unlock countless switch tricks.

👟 Foot Positioning

1. Front Foot (Sliding Foot)

Your dominant foot should be positioned back from the nose to give yourself more room and power for the slide. Avoid placing it too close to the nose.

2. Back Foot (Popping Foot)

Your non-dominant foot should be on the tip of the tail, not in the middle. This positioning gives you significantly more power for the pop compared to a regular ollie.

1

Ride Switch

Get comfortable riding in your switch stance. This is crucial before attempting any tricks.

2

Pop

Pop the tip of the tail with your non-dominant foot. Place your foot at the very tip to maximize power.

3

Slide

Slide your dominant foot forward and up the board to level it out. The forward motion is important.

4

Land

Land on the bolts and try to maintain your balance while rolling away switch. This will feel very unnatural at first.

💡

Golden Tip!

It is literally like learning skateboarding all over again. You switch your feet and everything just feels different. This is completely normal. It is a point of practice — the small details in your foot positioning will have a huge impact on your success with this and all future switch tricks.

⚠️ Common Mistakes

⚠️

Very little pop: This is normal. You need to build strength in your non-dominant ankle for popping.

⚠️

Poor slide: The sliding motion with your dominant foot will be uncoordinated at first.

⚠️

Losing balance immediately: Spend a lot of time just riding switch before attempting this.
