5-0 Grind

Difficulty Level: IntermediateTail

A grind on your back truck, like a manual.

The 5-0 Grind is essentially a manual on a ledge or rail. You ollie onto the obstacle and grind solely on your back truck, with the nose of the board in the air.

🎯 Balance on the back truck!

The 5-0 is a classic grind that tests your balance and is a stepping stone to many other grind variations.

🎯 Key Focus for Balance

The key is to keep your shoulders parallel to the ledge and your weight centered over the back truck, just like a manual. Use your arms to maintain balance.

1

Approach

Approach the ledge parallel or at a very slight angle with comfortable speed. Not too fast, not too slow.

2

Ollie and Lock In

Ollie high enough to get onto the ledge. Aim to land with your back truck locked right on the edge and keep the nose of the board up.

3

Grind and Balance

Center your weight over the back truck and keep your shoulders aligned with the ledge. Look towards the end of the ledge to help guide your direction.

4

Exit

As you near the end, gently press the nose down to bring the front wheels onto the ledge and ride off. Alternatively, you can pop a small ollie out to land back on the ground.

💡

Golden Tip!

Find the sweet spot of balance. You don't want to lean too far back (scraping the tail) or too far forward (dropping the nose).

⚠️ Common Mistakes

⚠️

Dropping the nose (turning it into a 50-50): Focus on keeping pressure on your tail and your weight back.

⚠️

Tail scraping the ledge: You are leaning too far back. Shift your weight slightly more forward, towards the center of the board.

⚠️

Slipping off the side: Ensure your shoulders stay parallel to the ledge throughout the grind.
